OllOhof

A meeting place for artists, culture enthusiasts, and the urban public: The OllOhof, owned by architects Jochen Schraut and Axel Rentschler in the Mainz Neustadt district, is in the midst of transforming into a cultural center with space for art, culture, education, and social engagement. Despite some disagreements with the city of Mainz regarding future usage, a number of creative projects are already taking place at the OllOhof. We also had the opportunity to leave our mark on these unique grounds with a free design, without specific guidelines: we chose to use the word OLLOHOF as the foundation of our design, slicing, abstracting, and filling the different shapes with structures, creating connections based on these forms. In the process, we partially drew inspiration from the existing architecture, such as windows, projections, and materials. In certain areas, we deliberately left sections of exposed brick to create a harmonious interplay with the colors and give the large-scale, somewhat wild design a sense of air and calm. This was undoubtedly one of the most exciting wall surfaces we’ve had the chance to design, and it was a fantastic experience to be trusted by the owners, who allowed us to paint the façade with complete freedom. Thank you, and continued success to the wonderful OllOhof project!
